Post Graduate

Temporary Public Policy to grant permanent residency to international students recently graduated from a Canadian institution. There are two streams available for international graduates:

  • Recent international graduates from a Canadian institution
  • French-speaking international graduates from a Canadian institution

Start and End Dates:

May 6, 2021 - November 5, 2021 or once the intake cap of each stream has been reached  INTAKE CAP REACHED ON MAY 7, 2021. Cap might be extended by IRCC. Keep posted!

Eligibility requirements:

  • Valid status in Canada: be physically present and reside in Canada with valid temporary resident status (or be eligible to restore their status) at the time the application for permanent residence is received and when the application is approved;
  • Language: English or French minimum of CLB 5 in each language skill;
  • Education: have recently graduated from a designated learning institution in Canada and with an eligible credential;
  • Employment: be legally employed in Canada (authorized to work in Canada) in any occupation of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) at the time that the application for permanent residence is received;
  • plan to live outside of Quebec; and
  • not be a refugee claimant in Canada.

Eligible family members (spouses / common-law partners and dependent children) can be included to the application.

Graduation requirements:

Candidates must have graduated on or after January 1, 2017, from an eligible program at a designated learning institution (DLI) and have been authorized to study for the duration of their studies.

The DLI must offer post-graduation work permits (PWGPs), however, the candidates do not need to have a PGWP in order to apply.

Eligible programs:

Candidates must have graduated with one of the following:

  • a degree (Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctorate) with a program length of at least 8 months;
  • a degree, diploma, certificate or attestation leading to a job from the list of eligible trade occupations;
  • a diploma, certificate or attestation for a program that was at least 2 years (16 months) in length
  • two or more diplomas, certificates or attestations where each program was at least 8 months in length;
  • a diploma of vocational studies (DVS) or an attestation of vocational specialization (AVS) where each program was at least 1,800 hours in length; or
  • two or more DVS or AVS where each program was at least 900 hours in length. When combining 1 AVS with 1 DVS, the length of the AVS program may be less than 900 hours if the combined length is at least 1,800 hours.

Intake Cap:

Stream 1 – a maximum of 40,000 applications

Stream 2 – French-speaking international graduates: No cap

Applications were open from May 6, 2021 to November 5, 2021 or once the intake cap of each stream was reached, whichever comes first. INTAKE CAP REACHED ON MAY 7, 2021. Cap might be extended by IRCC. Keep posted!

Fees:

Any permanent residence applicable fee must be paid at the time of application.
