Work Permit Canada
  • Applications: IRCC is still accepting new applications for citizenship. It is taking longer to process applications due to COVID-19 pandemic.

Citizenship tests, interviews and ceremonies: Due to COVID-19 pandemic, all in-person citizenship tests, interviews and ceremonies were cancelled.

IRCC is inviting some applicants to take the citizenship test online. In some situations, applicants who qualify can request urgent processing for tests and interviews.

Since April 1, 2020, IRCC also started inviting applicants who had a ceremony scheduled on or before March 15, 2020 to take the Oath of Citizenship through video calls.

After becoming a Permanent Resident, the next step is applying for your citizenship as soon as you meet the requirements.

Citizens of Canada have the right to vote in the federal, provincial and municipal elections and hold jobs in both the public or private sectors that require a high-level security clearance.

To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, the applicant must be a Canadian permanent resident and have lived in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 year before the application for citizenship is submitted.

Note that there are exceptions to reduce this time requirement if the permanent resident previously held a Canadian work permit prior to obtaining permanent residency status. We can assess this time requirement for you and determine if you are eligible to apply for citizenship up to a year early than the current standard.

Applicants who are 18 to 54 years of age are required to take an English or French test. The minimum language requirement is Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 4 in all skills. They must also have a good understanding of Canada’s history, values, institutions and symbols, and pass a citizenship test.

Those who committed a crime in or outside Canada may not be eligible to become a Canadian citizen for a period of time.

We will review your and your family eligibility for Canadian Citizenship and ensure you meet with all requirements of the program.
