Description

Newfoundland and Labrador (formerly Newfoundland) was the last province to join Canada, and it did so in 1949. Newfoundland is located in a unique time zone in North America; it is 1/2 an hour later than Atlantic time. As long ago as 986 A.D., Vikings sailed along the coast of Newfoundland, and a little bit later, they even settled on the island. The key industries in Newfoundland are fishing, mining, and petroleum.
