| Description Prince Edward Island, better known as PEI, is Canada's smallest province, and is completely surrounded by water. In 1997, Confederation Bridge was built to connect PEI by road to the mainland. The bridge is 12.9 km long, cost 1 billion dollars and took almost 4 years to build. One of PEI's main industries is tourism; in fact 1.2 million people visit PEI every year while PEI's population is only 135,800.
